Measuring almost two metres in length, it has 30 lights, fixed all around its entire antiqued brass frame, so it will look the same from both sides of the table, and from its ends.
The technique used to finish the partially-silvered glass is called martellato. This translates into English as hammered but the surface of the glass, when cool, is actually ground with small strokes. This is a very labour-intensive and skilled process, fraught with risk of breakage but the successful result is breath-taking.
