A very grand suspended ceiling light, made in Venice from clear hand-blown Murano piastra glass. What you see here are many pieces of piastra glass, formed by hand and looped over a nickel finish metal frame.
The design and style are firmly rooted in the 1970s, but it's made using a technique which dates back as far as the thirteenth century. It's a very labour intensive method, as the molten glass is formed into the required shape by hand, using iron tools, and then left to cool. Each piece is then hand ground to a precision finish and numbered for final assembly.
